Stratford Circus was the proud recipient of an award from City Circ for an artist in residence project April – December 2010. City Circ is a new network of 20 Venues in and around Greater London, offering networking and partnership opportunities to developing new contemporary circus work.
Stratford Circus worked with the UK’s leading German wheel duo Acrojou Circus Theatre to seed and develop new circus work for and with children and families entitled ‘Waste Time’. The theme of the work is environmental, with an emphasis on encouraging a creative approach to reusing and recycling. A key part of the project included time spent with Keir Hardie Primary School, working with the children, young people and families in the school and theatre.
‘As an Arts Centre, Stratford Circus has an amazing number of activities, groups, facets and events- all co existing and cross-pollinating. As a Resident company we have felt completely welcomed into the infrastructure of this thriving creative hub, and indeed our time as a part of this community has far exceeded our expectation of what a 'residency' actually is, and can be.
As Artists, this has given us the space, support and inspiration to grow, through access to new work, new ways of working, new friends and new collaborators, and, central to all of the above, it has given us a sense of belonging and community.’
